Art contest/exhibit to feature Hannibal parks
Hannibal, Mo. -- Hannibal parks are beautiful all year round.
Often there are photographers and artists taking advantage of the fall foliage in Riverview Park, but there is beauty in Hannibal parks during each season: In the spring with the trees blooming, in the summer with the sun shining and even in the winter with the snow blowing.
The Hannibal Arts Council along with the Hannibal Parks & Recreation Department is sponsoring an art exhibit and competition featuring Art from the Parks.
Artwork for all media, photographs, paintings, drawings, sculpture, etc., will be accepted.
The exhibit won’t be until February of 2013. “We want to give artists a full year to take advantage of all the seasons in the park,” said Mary Lynne Richards, assistant supervisor of Hannibal Parks & Recreation. If an artist wants to submit the maximum two pieces, each must be from a different season.
Michael Gaines, Hannibal Arts Council director, said, “We often do theme exhibits, however, this exhibit is unique in that we are asking artists to focus on specific places.”
Brenda Beck Fisher, local artist, said she loves to paint scenes from Hannibal parks. “There is nothing like the view of the river from the lighthouse or Riverview Park,” she said. “The scenery just begs to be captured.”
Gaines said the exhibit will accept up to two pieces in any 2-D and 3-D media. There will be prizes for youth and adults.
It will be open to students and adults of all ages.
More information, including submission information and entry forms, are posted on the Gallery Page at www.hannibalarts.com.
