Toys for Tots press release

Toys for Tots of Northeast Missouri will provide toys for 1,500 children this holiday season; Wednesday, Dec. 19 is Distribution Day in Hannibal at the Admiral Coontz Recreation Center.

About 495 low-income families qualified for Toys for Tots assistance in Marion, Ralls, Pike and Lewis Counties.  During the distribution, Salvation Army will provide 750 food baskets.

Managerial support for Toys for Tots locally is provided by Douglass Community Services and Hannibal Parks & Recreation.

The mission of the U. S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program is to collect new, unwrapped toys and distribute those toys as Christmas gifts to less fortunate children in the community.

Each child will receive 3 toys, along with stocking stuffers and books.

Unlike previous years, parents will be able to shop for each of the toys, instead of receiving a box with some of the toys.

Stacey  Nicholas is director of RSVP and co-coordinator of Toys for Tots with Hannibal Parks & Recreation assistant director Aron Lee.

Nicholas said, “We are very thankful for the community stepping up and donating toys to make Christmas special for children in the area.”

The local Toys for Tots drive had the help of Americorps Corporation for National and Community Services workers for six weeks, organizing toy drives and keeping inventory of toys.
