Who and what are we?

We are a group of concerned citizens who contribute our time and/or money to encourage the development and preservation of parks, recreational facilities, bike and walking trails within the Hannibal community.

“Friends of Hannibal Parks & Trails” (FHPT) goal is to secure both volunteer and monetary assistance to enhance, beautify and restore the beauty of our parks system.

History of Friends of Hannibal Parks & Trails (FHPT)

Friends of Hannibal Parks and Trails (FHPT) group was formed as a Missouri nonprofit on April 27, 2006. We are sponsored by the NEMO Community Foundation (NMCF). NMCF, formed in 1999, is a tax-exempt, not for profit; autonomous publicly supported 501(c)(3) corporation. It operates primarily to accept gifts, the earnings of which will be used for the long term benefit of our community. NMCF has set up a restricted fund that anyone can donate to. Your donation will be tax deductible.

Why parks & trails?

Parks, bike and walking trails and pathways are a real benefit for a community. They provide children and adults an opportunity to achieve an active and healthy lifestyle. In addition, they provide a safer environment for recreational activities. Plus, they:

link parks and open spaces
increase property values
increase opportunities for physical activity
express the community's pride and character
provide access to recreational activities
stimulate local economies by attracting tourists
give citizens opportunities to experience the city's natural beauty

In order to keep Hannibal’s parks clean, green and growing, the Friends offer those who love the parks opportunities to be a part of their success. Regardless of the type of gift, its size or whether it is made now or in the future, donors can be confident that their gift to the Friends of Hannibal Parks & Trails will benefit their parks system forever.

By making a contribution to the Friends, you will be making a sound investment in the quality of life that we associate with Hannibal – open green space, fitness trails, parks to play in, exceptional recreational programs, recognized activities and new and innovative environmental initiatives.

You are also contributing to the economic vitality that beautiful parks and abundant green space afford our community and make it a desirable place to live and work. Your donation will ensure the preservation of our precious land, and provide the people of Hannibal with a park system of which they can continue to be justifiably proud.
