Catch Cupid if You Can!
The inaugural "Catch Cupid if You Can!" event was held at Riverview Park on Saturday, February 11th. It was a success despite the cold temperatures.
More than 170 individuals registered for the 5K fun run and walk. Amy Vaughn, director of Kids in Motion, said the fundraiser will be an annual event. “Everyone had a great time,” she said. Kids in Motion participants were on the course cheering on the walkers and runners.
Awards were given to the first female and male across the finish line: Marisa Ellison and Alex Dowil. Marisa said she loves running in Riverview Park and appreciated the opportunity to race there. “I decided to embrace winter and brave the cold and I was glad I did!”
Cupid handed out chocolate roses to the female participants when they crossed the finish line. Raffle prizes were drawn while participants were out on the course. Finishers were able to pick up their prizes and food and drink and warm themselves by burn barrels around the park afterward. It was a fun atmosphere and everyone agreed that Riverview Park is a beautiful place for such an event, even in cold weather.
Kids in Motion, which is part of Douglass Community Services, is an employment program for at-risk teens and pre-teens which teaches the value of work and community.
