The lifeguards at the Ronny Ferrel Hannibal Aquatic Center are sporting some bling this year and it’s all about recognizing them for a job well done.
Emily Hultgren, who is serving her second year as aquatics director, said she has started a program that honors the lifeguards for their vigilance and dedication.
Beads are given to the lifeguards for various reasons and the lifeguards attach them to the lanyards that are part of their uniform.
Here is what each colored bead means:
• Blue: Performed an in-water rescue
• Red: Assisted with providing first-aid
• Green: Picked up a shift/Came in if short staffed
• Yellow: Received a compliment from a patron
• Purple: Received a compliment from a supervisor
• White: Exceeds level scanning and rotating
Hultgren said she hopes the beads and recognition continue to give the lifeguards pride in their work. “Their dedication keeps everyone safe,” she said, “I hope the patrons will see their commitment to safety, skill and professionalism when they see the beads.”
