The Big Dirt Dig starts at 9 a.m. and children will have something to dig for, thanks to members of the Hannibal Street Department. Assistant Director Mike McHargue said his maintenance personnel pitched in and purchased more than 25 Matchbox cars, trucks and tractors and have buried them in the dirt.
The event is sponsored by Hannibal Parks & Recreation, Hannibal Street Department and Parents as Teachers. Children are encouraged to bring shovels, buckets, trucks and digging toys.
The Big Dirt Dig is 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. today at the Street Department maintenance facility, 701 Warren Barrett Drive. There will be several pieces of maintenance equipment on display.
