Bald Cypress Grove

The bald cypress grove on South Main Street will be dedicated at 2 p.m. Thursday June 10.

The grove is located on flood buyout property just south of Bear Creek and east of South Main Street.

The grove will be dedicated to Ed Tamerius, who has served on the Hannibal Tree Board for 22 years.

BASF funded the  more than 70 bald cypress trees that were planted last fall. A large cedar post will display plaques acknowledging Tamerius, BASF, the Hannibal Parks & Recreation Department and the Skinner family, who donated the cedar log.

Missouri Department of Conservation employees and alumni from around the state are expected to attend the ceremony. Tamerius worked for MDC for 32 years.

Hannibal has been a Tree City USA for 21 years.
