There will be a food truck from Mark Twain Dinette available during the Old Time Base Ball games Saturday in Huckleberry Park.

Old time “base ball” (as it was originally called) games will be played at 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. It will be a round-robin tournament with three teams: Hannibal Nationals, St. Louis Unions and Mexico Ghosts.

Many of the players compete wearing period reproduction uniforms. The teams follow the 19th century rules of play, such as no baseball gloves and balls caught after one bounce means the batter is out.

The teams competing Saturday will be honoring the legacy of Hannibal’s own Jake Beckley. Beckley, nicknamed “Eagle Eye,” played for several major league teams between 1888 and 1907. He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1971. Jake Beckley collector’s card has been printed as a Bicentennial keepsake along with cards of nine other famous Hannibalians. These cards are distributed by the Tom & Becky ambassadors.
