Autumn brings out a variety of mushrooms, many of which are edible. Hannibal Parks & Recreation is offering a family nature program called “Mushroom Scavenger Hunt” at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 8.
The program will be led by Nature Interpreter Gale Rublee and members of the Mississippi Hills Master Naturalist chapter. Rublee said, “There are many edible types of mushrooms like Hen of the Woods mushrooms, which are very dense.”
She said participants should meet at the parking lot at the entrance of Riverview Park. “Searching for mushrooms is always a sort of scavenger hunt. We’ll see what we can find in the woods of Riverview Park as we explore the new Eagle Scout trail.”
These programs free due to the generosity of Hannibal BASF but registration is expected at www.hannibalparks.recdesk.com/Community/Program
