Hannibal Parks &  Recreation is taking reservations for a Sodalis Nature Preserve Trail Hike, which will be 9 a.m. June 28, starting at the Sodalis Nature Preserve trailhead and parking lot.

Trail hikes through Sodalis Nature Preserve are scheduled on the fourth Sunday of the month (weather permitting). There is a strict limit of 10 participants to allow for social distancing and reservations must be made by calling Hannibal Parks & Recreation at 221-0154 or by emailing mlrichards@hannibal-mo.gov.

The hikes will cover about 2-3 miles over moderately rugged terrain and will take about two hours. There will be seasonal observations and a short reflective solo time. Participants are encouraged to bring water, wear sturdy shoes, use walking sticks and spray to repel ticks and chiggers.

Nature programs and hikes are led by Gale Rublee, a nationally certified interpreter guide with more than 25 years of experience in outdoor education. Rublee is a founding member of the Hannibal area Mississippi Hills chapter of Missouri Master Naturalists. The Master Naturalist volunteers often assist Gale with HPR programs. Recently, Hannibal Parks & Recreation produced online “Nature Moments with Gale” to encourage Hannibal residents to get outside for a dose of Vitamin “N” for Nature. These videos are available on Hannibal Parks & Recreation Facebook page or at www.hannibalparks.org. Rublee encourages others to email your own nature moment pictures or mysteries to mlrichards@hannibal-mo.gov.
