Registration and first night for the Hannibal Area Shooter’s Education Youth BB Gun League is 6 p.m. Nov. 6 at the Admiral Coontz Recreation Center.

Travis Moore, program coordinator, said the program has two main goals:
• Teach area youths how to safely handle firearms. This helps protect these youngsters while on the range, in their homes or in the field.
• Help each person improve individually. While working to improve their shooting ability, it builds confidence in each participant.
The free class is a firearm safety awareness program for children ages 8-18. Topics include ethics, sportsmanship, fundamentals for firing a gun, ammunition knowledge and safe gun handling, wildlife management and animal identification. This is not a hunter certification course. Participants can earn awards for improvement in target practice.
The sessions will be Thursday evenings at the Admiral Coontz Recreation Center as long as school is in session, through Feb. 26, 2026.
