A few changes have been made to the schedule for Hannibal Area Shooter’s Education Youth BB Gun League, allowing for more education and practice.

Registration Night is 6-7:30 p.m. Oct. 24 at the Admiral Coontz Recreation Center.

All students and parents are encouraged to attend. After registration there will be an introduction of the program and question-and-answer period. Volunteer coaches are needed to help and are encouraged to attend Registration Night to learn more information.

Travis Moore, program coordinator, said participants will be divided into two groups, 6-7:30 p.m. and 7:10-8:30 p.m., with each group attending classroom sessions from 7:15 to 7:30 p.m.

The first night of the Hannibal Area Shooter’s Education Youth BB Gun League, sponsored by the Hannibal Parks & Recreation Department, is Thursday, Nov. 7, at the Admiral Coontz Recreation Center.

The class is Thursdays through Feb. 27. There will be no class during school holidays or weather-related closings.

The free class is a firearm safety awareness program for children ages 8-18. Participants are required to bring safety glasses.

Topics include ethics, sportsmanship, fundamentals for firing a gun, ammunition knowledge and safe gun handling, wildlife management and animal identification. This is not a hunter certification course.

Participants can earn awards for improvement in target practice.

Coaches are need to help with the program, there will be Coach’s Night at 6 p.m. Nov. 4 at the Admiral Coontz Recreation Center.
