The Hannibal Tree Board celebrated its 2025 accomplishments, including 191 volunteer work hours, at its meeting Wednesday, Jan. 7 and made plans for this year.
Tree Board members are Kristy Trevathan, Paul Ewert, Harry Graves, Paul Miller and Susan Welker. David Vance is the adviser from Missouri Department of Conservation and Chad Collier from Hannibal Parks & Recreation.
Tree Plantings:
- Planted 121 trees on South Main Street, Broadway, Sixth Street, Huckleberry Park, Nipper Park, Habitat House on South Eighth Street, MODOT property and Cardiff Hill Overlook Park.
- Planted tree on Arbor Day at the Wedge to honor the John Martin donation for the Broadway Tree Plan.
- Partnered with Forest ReLeaf both Spring and Fall to distribute 73 trees.
- Planted 24 trees at the BASF Sixth Street location.
- A Memorial Burr Oak was planted at Nipper Park as donated by the Whiston family.
Maintenance:
- Mulched trees at Nipper Park, city mulched trees at Central Park and Main Street and Broadway.
- Reported hazardous trees to Andy Dorian.
- Replaced two trees at Huckleberry Park Community-Tree site.
Training and Information
- Participated in Eagle Days at Admiral Coontz Recreation Center Feb. 22. Information materials distributed, walking sticks prepared by Paul Miller.
- Conducted a Callery Pear Buyback Project April 22, with 25 trees picked up at Forest ReLeaf.
- Designated a Tree of the Month from April to November.
- Held Parks & Recreation employee pruning workshop Feb. 3 at Huckleberry Park.
- Volunteer Hours recorded by Harry Graves for Tree City USA designation was 191 hours for the year.
