The winter solstice marks the shortest day and longest night of the year.

Celebrate the day with a Winter Solstice Nature Program at 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 21 at Riverview Park.

The Hannibal Parks & Recreation nature program is sponsored by Hannibal BASF. Admission is free but registration required at www.hannibalparks.org.

Gale Rublee, nature interpreter with Hannibal Parks & Recreation, said, “Celebrating the winter solstice honors nature’s rhythms, marks the return of light and connects us to ancient traditions of renewal and reflection. It’s a meaningful way to pause, gather, and embrace the season’s quiet beauty.”

There will be a short hike on a pedestrian trail. All ages are encouraged to attend and wear clothing suitable for the weather.
