Hannibal Parks & Recreation is one of the founding members of the Living Better Initiative. The Living Better initiative takes the letters of BETTER to motivate and foster a culture in northeast Missouri which encourages residents to make lifestyle choices which positively affect the health, longevity, and quality of their lives. BETTER stands for Be Active, Eat Well, Team Up, Treasure Family, Envision Purpose and Relax and Recharge.  
The goal of Living Better is to unite current health initiatives of organizations in northeast Missouri under a common banner of Living Better. The website has a calendar and map that allows easy access to ways to Live BETTER.

Drop-In Pickleball
Tuesday evenings - November 13th-December 4th - 5:30-8:30PM

Indoor Archery
Wednesdays - December 5, 2018-February 27, 2019 (no session on December 19th)
6:30-9PM
Admiral Coontz Recreation Center
Participants under 16 years of age must be accompanied by an adult.
Participants must bring their own bow and arrows.  This program is not instructional - it is a place for participants to practice.
$5 per visit or $50 for a season pass

Holiday House Decorating Contest
Decorate your house or business for the Holidays and submit a photo or video for judging!  Make sure to send your address if you want everyone to come see your great decorations!
Prizes will be awarded for: Clark Griswold, People's Choice (Facebook Vote), Mayor's Choice, Best Commercial Building, Most Holiday Spirit, and Creative Use of Lights
Open to all Hannibal Residents (building must be within Hannibal city limits)
Rules
Entries are due by 5PM on December 13th
Judging on December 14th

Snowball Toss
Saturday, December 15, 2018 - 3-5PM
Y Men’s Pavilion (105 Hill Street)
There will be a big holiday wreath hanging down from the middle of the stage. Participants may toss Styrofoam “snowballs” into the wreath and win a prize.

Music, Marshmallows, and Mistletoe
Saturday, December 15, 2018 - 5-6PM
Ymen's Pavilion (105 Hill Street)
There will be a bonfire for warmth and some marshmallows for roasting.  Hot chocolate will also be available.
The Pirate Pride Singers, a group of fifth and sixth-graders from Eugene Field School, will sing holiday music.
This event is FREE!

Searching for Signs of Winter
Sunday, December 16, 2018 - 1-2PM 
Riverview Park (meet by playground)
Participants will take a hike, enjoy hot chocolate, find out how plants and animals in Riverview Park survive the winter.
Gale Rublee, nature educator, will lead the hike. Rublee had been a professional storyteller and teacher-naturalist for school groups at the Missouri Botanical Garden’s Shaw Nature Reserve. She is now the youth coordinator and acting teacher for Bluff City Theater’s Academy and YETI (Youth Education Theater Initiative) program.

Scavenger Hunts
The Hannibal Parks & Recreation Department has developed Scavenger Hunts to encourage visitors to the HPR sites
These free activities allow participants to learn more about Hannibal Parks and to earn a free treat from a local business in the process!
