HPR offers many programs and recreational opportunities. We strive to offer activities for all ages, all levels of ability and a variety of interests. We want to promote healthy, active lifestyles. Call 573-221-0154 for details. Or, submit a request for information HERE.

Toddler Tuesdays
Every Tuesday from 9-11AM (may be canceled due to special events)
Admiral Coontz Recreation Center
For children up to 5 years old
Young children will be able to use the gym without colliding with basketball players
Imagination Playground building blocks will be brought into the gymnasium
There are also coloring books, puzzles, balls and games
This is not a babysitting service - each adult is allowed to bring no more than four children and must sign in with the attendant

Autumn Night Hikes through Sodalis Nature Preserve

Friday, September 22, 2017  - 6:30-8:30 PM
Friday, October 27, 2017 - 6-8 PM 
Meet at the parking lot of Sodalis Nature Preserve, where we will hike up to the bat caves, exploring nature signs along the way. Pause for a story at the top, then return in the dark with sensory awareness activities.
The hike will be on paved paths - about 2 miles.
Guided by nature educator, Gale Rublee

Foraging for Fungi           
Wednesday, September 27, 2017 - 10 a.m. to noon
Meet at Sodalis Nature Preserve trailhead
While everyone knows about spring morels, fall is one of best times to find fungi or mushrooms, including many edible ones. Explore the woods with nature educator Gale Rublee.
Moderate to difficult hiking

Freaky Friday Decorating Contest
Decorate your home or business for Halloween and take a photo or video of it for judging!
Prizes for: Most Creative, Scariest, and Overall Display

Hannibal City Wide Cleanup
Saturday, October 28, 2017
Cleanup Location: South Main
Time: 7am to 3pm (you must be through the intersection of Fulton and Main by 3pm or you will be turned away)

Lineup for the cleanup will start on Bluff Street off Highway 79

Pumpkins in the Park
October 29, 2017 - 3-5PM
Nipper Park
Join us for a Pumpkin Decorating Contest and Exhibit!
Walk along the pumpkin path and vote for your favorites!
Categories are Spooky, Artistic, and Silly
Age Groups: Children (12 & Under) and Adult (13+)
All pumpkins must be pre-decorated and at Nipper Park between 2-3PM
Pumpkins can be decorated with paint, glitter, markers, etc., but cannot be carved

Hannibal Area Shooter's Education
Hannibal Area Shooter's Education begins Thursday, Nov. 2 at the Admiral Coontz Recreational Center.
The class is 6:00- 9 p.m, Thursday through Feb. 22. There is no class during school holidays or weather-related closings.
The free class is a firearm safety awareness class for children ages 8-18 sponsored by Hannibal Parks & Recreation Department.
Topics include ethics, sportsmanship, fundamentals for firing a gun, ammunition knowledge and safe gun handling, wildlife management and animal identification. This is not a hunter certification course.
Participants can earn awards for improvement in target practice.

Scavenger Hunts
The Hannibal Parks & Recreation Department has developed Scavenger Hunts to encourage visitors to the HPR sites
These free activities allow participants to learn more about Hannibal Parks and to earn a free treat from a local business in the process!
