Programs & Events

HPR offers many programs and recreational opportunities. We strive to offer activities for all ages, all levels of ability and a variety of interests. We want to promote healthy, active lifestyles. Call 573-221-0154 for details. Or, submit a request for information HERE.

If you have children ages 6-11, click the following link for information from the University of Missouri Extension Office to learn how to include a variety of physical activities into their daily lives! Get Up! Get Active!

Toddler Tuesdays
Every Tuesday from 9-11AM (may be canceled due to special events)
Admiral Coontz Recreation Center
For children up to 5 years old
Young children will be able to use the gym without colliding with basketball players
Imagination Playground building blocks will be brought into the gymnasium
There are also coloring books, puzzles, balls and games
This is not a babysitting service - each adult is allowed to bring no more than four children and must sign in with the attendant

November Night Hike through Sodalis Nature Preserve
Friday, November 24, 2017 - 4-6 PM 
Meet at the parking lot of Sodalis Nature Preserve, where we will hike up to the bat caves, exploring nature signs along the way. Pause for a story at the top, then return in the dark with sensory awareness activities.
The hike will be on paved paths - about 2 miles.
Guided by nature educator, Gale Rublee
FREE, but reservations must be made by calling 573-221-0154 or by e-mailing MLRichards@hannibal-mo.gov  


Indoor Archery
Wednesdays, December 6, 2017-February 21, 2018 - 6:30-9PM
Admiral Coontz Recreation Center
Participants under 16 years of age must be accompanied by an adult
Participants must bring their own bow and arrows
This program is not instructional - it is a place for participants to practice
$5 per visit or $40 for a season pass

Snowball Toss
Saturday, December 9, 2017 - 3-5PM
YMen's Pavilion (105 Hill St)
Toss styrofoam "snowballs" into a big holiday wreath and win a prize!
Free to the public!

Music, Marshmallows, and Mistletoe
Saturday, December 9, 2017 - 5-7PM
YMen's Pavilion (105 Hill St)
Come listen to the PIrate Pride Singers since holiday music and roast some marshmallows by the bonfire!  Hot chocolate will be available as well.
Free to the public!

Ho Ho Hike
Sunday, December 10, 2017 - Starting at 1PM
Sodalis Nature Preserve (start at the Trailhead)
Led by nature educator Gale Rublee
Play games, hear stories, and hike up to the top of Sodalis Nature Preserve Trail to see Santa Claus!
Santa Claus will be there until 4 p.m.

Holiday House Decorating Contest
Decorate your home or business and take a photo of it for judging!
Categories for prizes are:

Winners will receive a prize donated by SC Data, along with a sign donated by Park Place Sign Systems
Entries must be submitted by 5 p.m. December 14, 2017 for judging on December 15th

The contest is open to Hannibal residents. Email submissions to

Searching for Signs of Winter on the Solstice
Thursday, December 21, 2017 - 10 a.m. to noon
Riverview Park
Take a hike, enjoy hot chocolate, and find out how plants and animals in Riverview Park are getting ready for winter
Led by Gale Rublee, nature educator

Scavenger Hunts
The Hannibal Parks & Recreation Department has developed Scavenger Hunts to encourage visitors to the HPR sites
These free activities allow participants to learn more about Hannibal Parks and to earn a free treat from a local business in the process!
