The Hannibal Parks & Recreation Department is providing a Storybook Trail in Central Park specially geared to young children. The Storybook Trail will be May 1-16.
The book is “Are We There Yeti?” written by Ashlyn Anstee, which is a picture book about Bigfoot driving the school bus on a field trip.
Storybook Trail is a free, family-oriented activity that the Hannibal Parks & Recreation Department sponsors. The pages of the book are installed along the sidewalk in Central Park. The signs were donated by Park Place Sign Systems of Hannibal and the books donated by Scholastic.
Mary Lynne Richards, recreation supervisor with Hannibal Parks & Recreation, said the book will be available for two weeks to give youngsters a chance to read the book as they walk through the park. “Reading helps youngsters learn about sounds, words and language,” she said. “It’s a good way to develop an appreciation for nature and imagination when we encourage reading outside.”
