Due to the generosity of those who loved Ronny Ferrel, children in Hannibal will receive free swim lessons at the Hannibal Aquatic Center this summer. Ferrel, who worked at the pool for more than 55 years, passed away June 3, 2023.
His family requested that memorials be made to fund swim lessons, the favorite part of Ferrel’s job.
Swim lesson signup will begin at 8 a.m. April 1 and will only be online.
Emily Hultgren, Aquatic Center director, encouraged parents to sign up as soon as possible. “Classes have always filled up quickly and this year will be even quicker.”
Swim lessons will be:
- Session 1 12-12:40 p.m. June 17-20 and June 24-27
- Session 2 6:10-6:50 p.m. June 17-20 and June 24-27
- Session 3 6:10-6:50 p.m. July 8-11 and July 15-18

Registration will close for each session when all 24 spots are filled. Children must be at least 4 years old to participate.
The Aquatic Center will open June 1, weather permitting, with hours of 1 to 6 p.m. daily.
