HANNIBAL — The Ice Bowl Disc Golf tournament featured more mud than ice Saturday.
Disc golfers from around the Tri-State area participated in the 18th annual Ice Bowl at the Don Crane Disc Golf Course in Huckleberry Park, sponsored by the Hannibal Parks & Recreation Department and Excitement Disc Golf.
Financial support was also provided by the Quincy Disc Golf Club.
The Ice Bowl mission is to increase local awareness of disc golf by raising funds for local and regional charities, with an emphasis on fighting food insecurity. In Hannibal the Ice Bowl donates to the Buddy Pack program, which gives backpacks full of free food to 400 Hannibal schoolchildren each week.
John Shaw of Excitement Disc Golf was the tournament’s director. “Disc Golfers tend to really step up when they’re doing something for a good cause and that’s kind of what this is all about. It’s to help people. This one is for the Buddy Pack which I think is great; it gives kids what they need.”
Brad Fink of Hannibal won his flight and earned the lowest score in the tournament. He said, “It’s a great tournament because it’s the simple fact we’re giving back to the community and the energy here is great.”
