A free class for anyone interested in learning the game of pickleball will be 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 2 at the Admiral Coontz Recreation Center. Equipment will be provided.
Tom Batenhorst, Park Board president and USA Pickleball ambassador for Marion County, will teach the class along with other fellow enthusiasts. He said the game is social, fun and easy for the whole family to play.
Pickleball was first introduced in 2014 by Hannibal Parks & Recreation officials and has grown in popularity each year. There are three locations for pickleball play: Admiral Coontz Recreation Center, Norfolk & Southern Multi-Sports Park and Huckleberry Park. The recent construction work at Huckleberry turned four tennis courts into six pickleball courts and two tennis courts, along with, along with user-activated lights at the Huckleberry Park courts so players can still enjoy the game after dark.
