The Hannibal Aquatic Center is open 1-6 p.m. daily, allowing people to cool off during these days of a heat advisory.

The administrative staff make sure the lifeguards stay hydrated during long hot days at the pool. Jenna McDonald, aquatics director, said several steps are taken to ensure lifeguards stay safe:

  • Lifeguards sit under umbrellas
  • They carry water with them on the stand
  • They have a 30-minute break every 90 minutes.

McDonald said she and her staff monitor the condition of co-workers and patrons at the pool.

She encourages everyone to be cautious during hot days. “Make sure to drink plenty of fluids before and during your swim. Wear sunscreen and wear a hat or sunglasses to protect your eyes from the sun.”
