The amount of children in need of toys this holiday season is near record levels, according to Toys for Tots Coordinator Stacey Nicholas.
Toys for Tots of Northeast Missouri will provide toys to about 1,300 children during the holiday season. Managerial support for Toys for Tots locally is provided by Douglass Community Services and Hannibal Parks & Recreation. The mission of the U. S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program is to collect new, unwrapped toys and distribute those toys as Christmas gifts to less fortunate children in the community.
Toys can be dropped off at many locations, such as Dollar General stores, City Hall, Douglass Community Services and the Admiral Coontz Recreation Center.
Nicholas said supporting Toys for Tots is an amazing way to spread joy and cheer to children in need during the holiday season. “When considering donations, it’s crucial to remember that children of all ages deserve to experience the magic of receiving a gift. Often, donations for children under 2 and those over 13 can be overlooked, but they are just as important.”
She said for infants and toddlers, items like soft toys, educational toys, and baby essentials can make a huge difference in their early development and bring smiles to their faces. Meanwhile, for teenagers, thoughtful gifts like art supplies, board games, sports equipment and headphones can help make their holidays brighter.
Nicholas said, “Every donation, big or small, is a step toward creating unforgettable moments for children in need.”
